My philosophy

I trust in the innate wisdom of the body, and I truly believe that how we give birth matters. I also feel that the care providers we choose to support us matter. I consider birth to be a physiological process of the body, and every person deserves education and informed decision making during this tender time. I follow the philosophy that through education comes empowerment, and the journey through pregnancy and birth is an opportunity to alchemize what we’ve always been told, into deeper connection to our internal guidance system. I do not believe that the pregnant body is something to pathologize, and I feel there are many black holes in our collective standard of prenatal and postpartum care. It truly takes a village to support families in this process of preparing for birth and birth recovery. And it is my intention to bring the power back into birthing hands.

The role of a doula is not to diagnose, provide clinical care, play midwife, or play doctor. Doula support is not in leu of having a midwife.

Birth is not just about making babies. Birth is about making mothers—strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength. - Dr. Rachel Reed
